The concept of these goggles is great: large diameter to distribute the pressure across more area of your face, memory foam to conform to your personal features, adjustable nose piece, surfactant-based solution to prevent fogging. I also had a fabulous pair of Barracudea goggles in high school (early 90's). Based on my personal history with Barracuda and the updated features of the B-200 model, I decided to take the $42 plunge. I followed the instructions for fitting the googles to one's face prior to swimming, etc. I dutifully adjusted the nose-bridge as I found the correct placement of the wide-lens on my face. My first swim with the googles was good, as I liked the wide lens and visibility they conferred. In subsequent swims, the googles went from bad to worse: if they weren't filling with water, they were fogging. It's like tires on a sports car! If they aren't perfectly fitted, you might as well not have tires at all. Several of my workouts have suffered greatly as I have had to stop every 25 yd. to empty or shift the Barracuda B-200 googles. Further, the hex screws that are used to hold the nose piece in place have corroded in fewer than 5 trips into the pool. I am going back to my very basic plastic Speedo googles that do not have materials that corrode when exposed to chlorine, and leaving the engineering at Barracuda to improve. |
